At present, Nigeria is the largest Africa aquaculture producer, at 15,500 tonnes a year. With annual domestic fish supply of about 400,000 tones, the fisheries sector accounts for about 2 per cent of national GDP of the country. It also contributes to 40 per cent of the animal protein intake and substantial proportion of employment, especially in rural areas. The sector is a principal source of livelihood for over 3 million people. Amex Fishing Ind. Limited played a significant role in this growth by venturing into Deep Sea Fishing in 1995 though the acquisition of its first trawler: TOKE-1. As a result of the success of the first trawler, Amex Fishing Ind. Limited acquired TOKE, a second trawler in 1998. Amex Fishing Limited’s Deep Sea Fishing Department currently produces the following products:
Sole Fish
Prawns all sizes
Shrimps all sizes
